A Different Type Of Van Club
BoogieVans was established in England in 1975
by the founding members of the UK National Street Van Association as
part of the NSVA's diversification policy that was intended to create a series of small local van clubs to make vanning more
accessible, and hence encourage van club growth at a local level
whilst the NSVA promoted vanning nationally. However BoogieVans was never really to
follow the model of other local clubs as it was founded on the following
principles:
No rules No membership fees No Violence Membership by invitation only
This is sometimes difficult for non-club members to understand.
How can you operate with no money and have no real rules except no
violence? A difficult concept to understand; but not to achieve if
all concerned value their association with the club and their fellow
members.
Finance
We do not seek to make money, what
we seek is participation and through participation we will achieve
our goals. We do however print new club T-shirts as and when
required and we ask members to pay for their T-shirt as this is
regarded as your membership card. T-shirts are priced to
ensure that the price paid covers only production and distribution
costs. Our only source of tangible funding is our occasional
raffle, the proceeds of which are held in member's private accounts
in trust, as we do not have a bank account. If we need to make
a major purchase then we pass the hat around to finance it. If we need to finance
a van run we will organise it in such a way that site charges are
paid directly to the site owner by the members rather than through
the club. Money in clubs always causes argument and if we can
therefore keep out of the banking business it removes tension and
politics.
International Membership
These central club ethics have not changed since the outset, however,
these same ethics have attracted a demand for membership outside of the UK
and we have therefore become the smallest international van club in the
world. We have members through out the UK, USA and Canada, all of whom
have been invited to join our club as we believe them to be true,
like-minded vanners.
To
express an interest in club membership please contact us
at info@boogievans.com.
Be advised it can take a while between T-shirt prints and therefore new
member intakes, but we do encourage you to register as a member of our online community
and participate and hang out with the club during this time.
Structure
We do of course have an overall structure to the club, as there are on going functions that need
attention. The following members have been appointed to oversee the
following areas:
George (Pheasant Plucker) Meacher
- Founder.
Dave (Lamppost) Watts
- Founder, Archievist.
Chris Moore
- Cultural and Diplomatic Attache.
John (Wino) Fulker
- Website Moderator.
James (Evo) Rolfe
- Attache.
Kevin (I'm not a Member) Walton
- Founder.
